Anoying your Dog

Your dog loves you no matter what. But, they don’t like everything we do. In fact, a lot of dog parents irritate them without even realizing it. Here there are some of the things our fur babies do not like.

Routine Changes

Dogs loves habits. They feel comfortable when they know what it is going to happen. Things as the time we wake up, when they will be feed, time to go walking or potty breaks are some of the things they expect to be done as a routine at similar times every day. When you change your dog’s routine, it can cause anxiety and weird behaviors, so you should try to be consistent when it comes about their schedule, weekday or weekend. You can always give them extra activities to give them more quality time with you, remember you are your dog’s world, they do not have anyone else to share their life with even when if you have more than one dog.

To Be on Their Own

Dogs are social beings and need company. If you leave them alone, they will be disappointed and in some cases extremely anxious. In fact, we cannot be every single minute with our fur baby. We hear very frequently about things like separation anxiety, destructive behavior, barking all the time, to mention the most common ones…. You should try to spend time with your dog every day, just to say “hi” or “I love you”, petting them a little bit when you feed them will be the world for them. If you plan to travel, please consider hiring a pet sitter, dog walker or a good boarding. NEVER, leave your dog at home alone if you are going away even for only one day (24 hours)

Boring Your Best Friend

Be very careful when you pick a dog breed. Your pet should be a good companion for many years and not a headache. Trending breeds or fashion ones is usually a common mistake some humans do when they choose a dog. All breeds were originally created to do jobs like herding, hunting, guard or protect to mention a few. So, having nothing to do can be extremely boring for a hunter or a herding dog and might develop destructive behavior or become stressed. Even mixed breed can suffer so always try to search on the dog’s background (DNA test are extremely helpful).

Also companion breeds will love having a purpose. It is mental and physical healthy to give your dog plenty of exercise and mental stimulation, and it would be great  taking them to a dog sport that makes their intelligence and instincts to work or getting fun, interactive toys created for dogs.

Do Dogs Like Hugs?

It’s a natural expression of love for us. But, many dogs dislike a tight hug. It can be felt as a form of restraint – your dog can’t run away or escape when you are holding them tightly in your arms. It can even be felt as a threat. Dogs usually don’t mind hugs, they don’t see that as a love expression. In fact, therapy dogs are trained to tolerate hugs.

Patting Your Dog on the Top of the Head

For some reason, people enjoy this kind of behavior. But if you pat your own head, you’ll see how annoying it can be. Besides, dogs don’t like to see hands approaching over them – it’s threatening. It is much better to pet your dog on their chest, side of their neck or ribs.

Staring at Your Dog

When you and your dog stare into each other’s eyes it releases the feel-good hormone oxytocin. But you must be sure your dog enjoys direct eye contact. This attitude means challenge/threat in animal language. So, you should teach your dog to associate it with good things like cuddles and/or treats.

Disrupt the Sleep

Even the best and most easy dog hates to be awakened suddenly. Especially, older dogs especially; they usually sleep more deeply, and those with hearing problems might not hear someone is approaching and can get scared by the sudden touch of a person. Let your fur baby wake up naturally, even you wouldn’t like being disturbed out of a good sleep. If you have to wake your dog, do it slowly, quietly, and gently.

Disturbing Your Dog

Throwing an imaginary ball might be funny for you, but it’s completely unfair to your dog. It is not only upsetting, but it can undermine his confidence. Instead, you must be honest with your pet all the time.

Rushing Your Dog on Walks

For us, walking our dog might be just physical exercise and potty breaks. But dogs look at it very different. Rushing them to “do their thing” can ruin their walks. Walk should be an opportunity for mental stimulation and socialization. Let them smell, explore, and take their time. Dogs see the world through their nose.

Probably, you’ve annoyed your dog with one or some things on this list. Thank goodness they are quick forgivers. Now that you know more about your dog’s feelings and points of view, you can be a much better owner to fulfil their needs and express your love in a more “doggie way”.
